Applications
Ammonium Chloride is an important technical salt. It has a diverse range of applications in industry, agriculture and medicine: Used as a flux in metalwork, in preparation for tin coating, galvanization or soldering. It cleans the metal surface by reacting with metal oxides. Used as an expectorant in cough medicine. Used as a systemic acidifying agent in treatment of severe metabolic alkalosis and other conditions. Used as a food additive E510 (e.g. flavoring in vodka and liquorices’) and as a yeast nutrient in bread making. Used as a nitrogen source in fertilizers. It is also used as an acidity regulator in animal feed. It is used as an Ingredient in pyrotechnics and fireworks. Ammonium chloride is also used in the formulation of household and personal care products, such as shampoos, soaps and cosmetics. Used in the production of dry-cell batteries as an electrolyte. It is also used as an Additive for dyeing of textiles and the tanning of leather.
